The Mongols period (1206-1368) was a horrific time but also somewhat peaceful. The Mongols invaded the largest land empire in “human history”. The Empire fell most times after two hundred after being built. The Mongols changed history greatly. They had many positive and negative on the empire.
They had many other methods as well. One method they used was burying people alive (Document 5). The Mongols buried just the prisoners’ heads under the earth so they couldn’t breathe, but they could watch them struggle. Another way was tying a the prisoner to a tree to act like a target (Document 5). Once he or she was fastened securely, the Mongolian army shot arrows at them until they killed them (Document 5).
The Mongols who are they and were they barbaric? The mongols was a small clan until they came to one leadership whom being named genghis Khan. He who lead the mongols to a world of conquering and success. The mongols were barbaric empire. They way they kept soldiers fighting is cruel, they way they killed people from other empires is not necessary, and the way they got married depending on the situation is unfair.
Lastly the Mongols performed vicious practices that were fatal and inhumane. In Document 5 a picture depicts five people being buried alive and another man being shot with arrows while tied to a tree. DBQ: The Mongols: How Barbaric were the “Barbarians”? Throughout history, the term “barbarian” has been used to refer to groups of “uncivilized” people with savage and evil qualities. What it essentially means is foreigners. A specific group of people called “barbaric” are the Mongols, a small tribe from central asian grasslands who during the 13th century, conquered much of the known world.
The Mongol empire accomplished the great feat of being the largest empire ever created. To put in into better perspective, it was larger than Alexander the Great and Tamerlane’s empires combined (Document 1)! However, the Mongols are also known for being brutal, killing more than 5 million people (Document 4). The Mongols were a clan of people who showed their barbarism through inflicting ruthless fear tactics, killing hundred thousands of people, and living by a set of uncivilized rules and barbarous body of laws. Mongols had countless ways of forcing fear not only on their enemies but among their own people as well. The Mongols number one method in ensuring that their people will stay in line is by threatening death upon them. If a few, in battle, flee from the enemy the entire group gets killed, unless they return back and in this case only the ones who originally fled are killed. In the trial of Genghis Khan, the two witnesses that presented the best evidence on the other side was the Chinese soldier and historian Mustasim. The Chinese soldier stated specific details of what gruesome things Genghis Khan committed. Some of the things he mentioned was how Genghis Khan raped many women and poured led into people's eyes and ears. Also, he mentioned Genghis Khan used his large armies to suffocate towns. If the town did not surrender the city it would be destroyed and the citizens would be killed-including children.
The Yuan Dynasty under the Mongol empire has an extensive amount of public works as they built granaries to protect the dynasty from famine, and created large road and water networks. These public works allowed for the people to have large surplus of food and water and also be able to travel in a more organized manner with the road system created (New World Encyclopedia, Country Studies). Everyone in the Yuan dynasty had access to these public works as they were used to the economy and to keep everyone fed. While having these very useful public works the Yuan dynasty also had lots of techniques using technology for warfare and engineering. While using new warfare technology from the Chinese the Yuan were able to create a strategy to take down fortification by studying the way forts were made.
Kublai Khan, once leader of the Mongols, is known best for being a successful conqueror of the Old World. As ruler of a reunified China since for the first time since the Tang Dynasty, Kublai Khan was great in his victories, yet his efforts to obtain control over the southern China, and what is now northern Vietnam, were failed. This paper will take a look at the three attempts Kublai made on Vietnam, and why the state with such a weak sense of national identity was able to defeat the great conqueror on every strike. How Barbaric were the Barbarians? The Mongols were a powerful people from what is now present day Mongolia, however what they are most notable for their horrifically violent military campaigns. During the time of the Mongol empire from 1206 to 1364 c.a., they committed many atrocities actions and throughout history they have been accused of being barbarians. However, despite their actions the Mongols were not barbarians as they exhibited an organized military, and advanced culture organized by a well developed system of laws.
Verdict of the Trial of Genghis Khan. After the trial had taken place, I decided that Genghis Khan and the Mongols were uncivilized. During the time of the trial I learned much more of the brutality that had taken place during his reign. The Mongols shook the world with the impact of their conquests, but not of their influence was negative. Overall the Mongols brought much needed change in politics and commerce to both China and the Middle East.
