Ever since I participated in the International Business Technology program in middle school, I’ve always had a driven passion for business. The experience was so fulfilling, therefore during high school, I went out of my way to find an opportunity to incorporate my knowledge of business. To my luck, DECA Ontario was tuned to my interests. DECA Ontario (Demonstrating Excellence Celebrating Achievement) is a business competition which allows members to compete at Regionals, Provincials, and Internationals in a case study competition for awards, scholarships and most importantly, experience. The task was to create an invention and write a 30-page proposal in order to present to various entrepreneurs. My invention was an inserted chip that converted the warmth of your hand into energy that would conveniently charge your phone. Not only did this idea make it into Provincials, many idols in the business world were impressed with my creativity and use of technology. I was certainly proud of the commitment I had put into my invention. Throughout Provincials, I have gotten the chance to network with alumni, leaders and business students across Ontario. I have become vastly inspired by stories and advice that could potentially benefit me in the future. The few days at Provincials were days that will remain unforgotten. I was a professional businesswoman that could one day, conquer my goals and become a C.E.O. Another year went by and Grade 10 gave me the opportunity to use the knowledge gained to help new students. I teamed up with a grade nine student and learned about our strengths and weaknesses.
