“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes a lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort. Our world wouldn’t be as advanced as it is today without science. In my paper I’m going to be talking about DNA fingerprinting and RFLP analysis. These all use genetics in some way and have a very big impact of our modern world. I’m going to be talking about the history of these two topics, the science behind the technologies, what the technique is used for and the controversy surrounding the topic.
In 1984, DNA techniques were first developed by Alec Jeffery’s. Alec Jeffery’s is one of the greatest contributors to modern genetics, he received an education at the university of oxford, and the two years at oxford he transferred to the University of Leicester where he became a professor. Today he is a professor in the genetics department. After years of studies and the combination of his recently acquired molecular biology experience with his interests in human genetics on September 10th, 1984 his team got there first truly awful DNA fingerprint. However he then realized that he had a DNA- based method for biological …show more content…

There are several different ways our society uses DNA fingerprinting. Fingerprinting is used for personal identification, paternity and maternity, diagnosis and cures for inherited diseases. You might ask how DNA fingerprinting can be used for diagnosis and cures for inherited diseases, well your family might have a long history of having a specific disease for example cancer. DNA fingerprinting catches these because your DNA can tell us ahead of time if you are vulnerable to the disease or not. A show called the Maury show uses DNA profiling to figure out if the child is really the parent’s child. Once again there are multiple uses for DNA profiling, it helps people every
