Good evening ladies and gentlemen, it’s an honour for me to present here at the Brisbane Comedy Festival to give recognition to the important role that humour plays in our society.

Humour is observed in all cultures and at all ages. It shifts the ways in which people think. It captivates their thoughts and changes their beliefs. It brings people together but can close minds and tear them apart. It is innate yet learned. It can be harmless but at the same time spiteful.

For me, subtle humour is most enjoyable. The show about nothing, also known as Seinfeld is my all-time favourite television show. I’m also a fan of satirical shows, such as NBC’s Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons.

The text demonstrates the stupidity in racial stereotypes and shows that they have no basis. People judging people based on stereotypes, creates a society that is divided into categories for each race. Africans, Asians, Hispanics and other races are placed into their relevant category with societal expectations as to how they need to act, speak and dress.

I believe that this type of humour may be likely to contravene the law in the future given the increasing influence of political correctness. In addition, as the world becomes a global village, I think the younger generation will be less racist and racism will dwindle so that humour of this sort will become less relevant. Consequently, I think that this humour will not stand the test of time. In addition, this style of ironic interview humour has a limited lifespan as the actor becomes famous and is unable to continue conducting fake interviews. Currently, my perspective on humour is that I enjoy most humour whether high or low brow. As I get older I think that I will gravitate to humour with an underlying message.
I think that humorous texts of the future will feature the increasing pervasiveness of technology in our daily lives (and perhaps its unreliability) as well as gender reassignment and perhaps genetically improved
