Character Analysis of Daisy Buchanan
“It was the kind of voice that the ear follows up and down as if each speech is an arrangement of notes that will never be played again” (Fitzgerald 13). Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The center of Jay Gatsby’s world. Tom Buchanan’s unhappy wife. Nick Carraway’s second cousin. The center of the entire novel. Daisy Buchanan is a selfish, hurtful, and careless person despite being beautiful and charming. Daisy Buchanan was born Daisy Fay to a rich family in Louisville, Kentucky. She met and fell in love with Gatsby however when he went off to fight in the war she was courted by her parents with Tom Buchanan. The couple had a baby girl named Pammy. The family moved to Chicago and France before settling in Long Island, New York. Although almost immediately after they wed, Tom began to have affairs with every woman he met.
Daisy is described as having a sad and lovely face with bright things in it. Bright eyes and a bright passionate mouth. However, the most important aspect of her character is her voice. Her voice is low and thrilling. Her voice has a connection to the sirens in “The Odyssey” because they lure men in with their voices. Daisy’s voice makes her both irresistible and dangerous to men. Gatsby says that her voice is “full of money” and Nick says that her voice is “indiscreet.” It is both, Daisy’s indiscretion is a factor of her money. Daisy is the …show more content…

She is unhappy in her marriage with Tom because when they got married she was still in love with Gatsby, Tom is abusive, domineering, arrogant, and he cheats on her. Her relationship with Gatsby is a thing of the past and has been over for a long time. Her reunion with Gatsby was short lived. Her relationship with Nick is not really explored in the book, however, it seems that the two are not that close based on how little Nick knows Daisy and how vastly different they
