Once time is lost it can never be returned. The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, takes place near New York in 1922. The entire story is narrated by Nick Caraway, who lives in west egg. He's house is right next to a mansion owned by a very rich man named Gatsby. Daisy, Nicks cousin, live across the bay in east egg and is married to Tom Buchanan. This story fallows the dream of Gatsby as he try's to get back his long lost love Daisy. The problem is they haven't seen each other in 5 years and Daisy has a family now. Almost 5 years! There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dream-not through her own fault but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion"(Fitzgerald95). For 5 years Gatsby has waited, 5 years he has dreamed, but now he feels as if it is not all he wanted. Daisy will never be able to satisfy him because of the greatness of his dream. This moment has become anti climatic and will disappoint Gatsby. Gatsbys dream made him believe that everything will be perfect and go the way he plans. However this event has started to bring Gatsby back to reality and shown him that not every thing can happen exactly the way it is planed. There is another event of similar importants after the party Daisy and Tom attended when Gatsby revels to Nick that he wants to go back to Louisiana to get married. "'I wouldn't ask too much of her,' I ventured.'You can't repeat the past.' 'Can't repeat the past?' He cried incredulously.'Why of course you can!'...'I'm going to fix everything just the way it was before,'"(Fitzgerald110).
