Jay Gatsby is a young man who suddenly comes into ‘a good deal of money’. Gatsby was 32 years old when he had his mansion, where he hosted parties for others to have fun and most especially to have Daisy’s attention. Jay Gatsby lives in his rich world dreaming he could have Daisy Buchanan, but in reality, he never thought of how impossible that could be. This essay will prove that Tom Buchanan represented the old money while Jay Gatsby was on the side of new money. Secondly, Gatsby was trying to bring Daisy back to his life using his available resources, so he wouldn't be alone. Thirdly, how Gatsby uses he's money to increase his reputation to impress Daisy. I could say that Gatsby has his mansion all to himself which has a beach, two motor boats, eight servants, gardens, ball rails, a personal gardner, an orchestra, expensive cars, and his precious custom made rolls royce e.t.c. Gatsby had his intention of talking Nick into inviting Daisy over to his house, which eventually turns out good for him. We watched and read that on this day, Gatsby wore a white suite(white is a colour thats represents goodness), this is trying to tell us that Gatsby is trying to appear good before Daisy. Gatsby used his opportunity to invite Nick and Daisy over to his mansion. His main purpose was to get Daisy back, which was his second step. When they arrived at Gatsby’s house, we see the shirts he throws down to happy Daisy and his well kept mansion, her mood at the moment seemed she was impressed at Gatsby’s new wealth. But then at Toms house, when Jordan, Nick, Gatsby, Daisy asked “what’ll we do with ourselves this afternoon?” cried Daisy, “and the day after that, and the next thirty years?” ( Fitzgerald chapter 7). The reply she got from Jordan made me understand how impossible Gatsby’s wants are, “Don't be morbid,” Jordan said. “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” ( Fitzgerald chapter 7). Gatsby used he's money to host very big parties every weekend which was like the most entertaining thing the people of West egg had. Gatsby did things that could earn him reputation from what people who attend his parties said, such as, he replaced a lady’s dress which got torn at one of his weekend parties with a new dress worth 265$ which when converted worths 3701$. Gatsby hosted his parties for almost the same reason; that is for the people to talk about the party outside the his house which helps him achieve his main goal-to attract Daisy Buchanan-. Tom Buchanan and Mr and Mrs sloan had a drink with Gatsby at his mansion. They invited him over for diner and he accepts to dine with them. After the diner with Tom and Mr and Mrs Sloan, Gatsby hosts a party the following Saturday expecting to see Daisy at the party. Daisy was eventually upset by Toms statement about Gatsby, “Tom upsets her by telling her that Gatsby’s fortune comes from bootlegging”(Fitzgerald, chapter 6). Tom has been investigating Gatsby’s affairs. “She replies that Gatsby’s wealth comes from a chain of drugstores that he owns”(Fitzgerald, chapter 6).
