The Great Gatsby: The Pursuit of Starting in roughly the 1920’s with the creation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. We start to see the uprising of the Jazz age and the introduction of new Ideologies such as the acceptance of a woman’s right to be considered a flappers girl and their decision to break-apart from the traditional role of a protestant. Also, during this time period crime rates were rising because of things such as prohibition. So in order to capture the wild phenomenon of the 1920’s, Fitzgerald uses the novel The Great Gatsby as a narration of Nick Carraway to talk about a young man, Jay Gatsby who is association with Meyer Wolfshine in the bootlegging industry to find fortune. When Gatsby was enlisted in the war, Daisy told him she would wait for his return. In his absence, however, Daisy entered a new relationship with a man named Tom Buchunan. Once Gatsby had returned from the war they met again. Daisy and Buchunan now live in East Egg. Buchunan is known as a wealthy family man who was born into riches. Gatsby is now living in West Egg, the city that had been divided from East Egg by water. West Egg is known for the families that have worked for their money and their citizens who tend to be less snobby and flamboyant. Gatsby has never given up on his dream to be with Daisy, especially now that only a body of water is between them. “He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way… I glanced seaward-and distinguished nothing except a single green light”(Fitzgerald.21). This is Gatsby reaching towards Daisy, he is still trying to grip on to the past that they had. However, Gatsby is scared to find her and talk to her. He would try to reel her in through holding extravagant parties. “I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby’s house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited”(Fitzgerald.41). He threw huge parties in attempt to lure her over to his house
