The story behind Dale Earnhardt Jr's racing career As many of you probably know Dale Earnhardt Jr recently retired after the 2017 season. Dale Earnhardt Jr was liked by almost everyone in the sport of nascar, not a lot of people had a problem with Dale. When everyone found out Dale was retiring they was in shock that it was so soon. So in the rest of this paper it will talk about Dale’s career leading up to his retirement and all the great accomplishments he had, and what made him retire so early in his career. To start off this paper it will talk about how the beginning of Dale’s racing career.

It was February 18th it was the day of the Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt jr and his teammate Michael Waltrip was racing to the finish line. Dale Jr finished second to his teammate Michael Waltrip. Dale Jr’s Father crashed in turn 4. A fellow racer by the name Sterling Marlin made contact with the left rear bumper Dale Sr’s car. That shot Dale Sr to the outside wall of the racetrack. He collected a fellow racer Ken Schrader as he was going to the outside wall. Dale Earnhardt Sr passed away on contact, when he hit the outside wall. Dale Sr died of basilar skull fracture. Dale Earnhardt jr was a mess after he found out that his father passed away in the wreck. It was a very emotional day for the sport of nascar, everyone loved Dale Sr. People loved Dale Sr so much that they was sending Sterling Marlin death threats to him and his family. Dale Jr and Michael Waltrip tried to ask the fans to stop sending Sterling Marlin and his family death threats. That was enough to get the fans to stop so they had to get the police involved to protect Sterling. The next weekend following the tragic Daytona 500 Dale Jr raced in North Carolina at the great Rockingham Speedway. Dale did not have a good race that weekend at all, Dale Jr finished 43rd. Dale was involved in a wreck on lap one that looked like the wreck his father was in the week before. A little later in the 2001 season Dale JR started to make a comeback. He won the Pepsi 400 which was at Daytona and was also the first race at Daytona since his father passed away there. For Dale Jr it was a very emotional win for him since his father passed away at that track later in the year. Dale Jr also went on to win the MBNA Cal Ripken Jr. 400 at Dover International Speedway. In the Fall Dale Jr took his second restrictor plate win at talladega, in the EA Sports 500. As Dale was leading the race down the
