2015 has been full of injuries, muffs, miffs and miscues for the Dallas Cowboys, who are currently in last place in the NFC East after their 27-20 hard fought loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. Even when the Cowboys’ run first philosophy finally had a breakout performance, gashing the Giants’ defense for 233 team rushing yards, with Darren McFadden handling a heavy workload (29 of the teams 41 attempts for 152 yards and score), it wasn’t enough for the Cowboys to stop the bleeding. Good quarterbacks that can make just about every throw like Romo can keeps offenses from being limited of making splash plays. We’ve seen many times throughout Romo’s career when he’s had to rally the Cowboys from behind when needing to turn to the aerial game, but with Cassel at the helm, it’s imperative for the Cowboys to keep the game within reach and not fall behind by multiple scores. The miscues and undisciplined play started in Week 1 against the Giants when Romo threw two interceptions that led to 10 Giants points, and a fumble by Beasley was returned for a touchdown, giving the Giants a total of 17 points off of Dallas’ turnovers despite the win. In their 20-10 win over the Eagles in Week 2, the Cowboys had a 13-3 lead in the second half when Weeden connected with tight end Gavin Escobar, who fumbled to give the Eagles the ball within striking distance, but luckily for the Cowboys, a muffed snap by the Eagles gave them the ball right back.
