Danny Mack “Dan” Gable was one of if not the best wrestler and coach in the history of U.S.A wrestling. His lifestyle was so simple, if you want something you need to work for it. “Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy”, (dan gable). What made Dan the most successful wrestling coaches and all around human being? During Dans prime coaching years he motivated his wrestlers to strive for more. After Dan’s competitive wrestling career, he joined the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling staff as assistant head coach under Gary Kurdelmeier. 1975, Dan’s first year on staff the Hawkeyes went undefeated in dual meets and captured the national title in the process. 1976, only lost one dual but remained the national champion two years in a row. 1978, nine wrestlers won national championships, Lost a single dual, and Lost the team title by half a point. With the combination of Gable and the Brands boys was unstoppable. Gable saw himself in two brothers, since the style and intensity mimicked Dan’s style and intensity. If Gable talked about anything everybody, even if they didn’t have a wrestling background would listen. The wisdom and knowledge that comes out of Dan’s mouth changed people's perspective about wrestling. The 1992 wrestling season, Dan had his third perfect season and was also crowned Big Ten champions nineteen years in a row. To top that season off the Hawkeyes won the national title, 9 All Americans, and 6 national champs.
