College Essay Dancing is a language-one anyone can read; however, the skill lies not in the ability to read, but in the passion to write. The moment my mom opened the door and I saw a glimpse of the older girls, with amazing alignments and perfect posture, pique-ing across the wooden floor was a moment of complete clarity; the dance studio was where I was supposed to be- and a dancer was who I had to become. For the past sixteen years dance has been the focus of my life. Although at times the demanding measures were difficult to accommodate, I always found myself drawn back to the studio to do what I love. There have been many sacrifices from the endless hours I spend there, but nothing brings me greater joy than the feeling I get from walking into the dance studio, inhaling scents of rosin and leather, and seeing my reflection in the newly polished Marley floor. The massive mirrors mounted on the skin-toned colored walls, and the ballet Barres laced over them, are a tantalizing test of my creativity. Every moment I spend practicing in the studio, I envision I am performing on stage. Ballet is living art. When I am in the studio, for everything that I can’t put into words, a thousand new ways of expression are suddenly possible for me. It is an art form that goes beyond the limits of language. The studio is my canvas, it begins empty, not yet marked with tinges; however, ready for the touch of a brush. Prepared to be painted with a painter’s idea, and the most familiar of moments being born; the canvas reflects the shades of the soul, stroke after stroke, brushes caress it and the burning undertones aide it to come alive.
