The 24th Annual Sacramento/Black Art of Dance occurred on February 18th-28th, 2016 at the California State University of Sacramento at Solano Hall 1010, home to many of Sacramento State 's Department of Theatre & Dance performances. Sacramento/Black Art of Dance is a modern dance company that follows the footsteps of Katherine Dunham. S/BAD not only carries on the tradition of Black Concert dance in America, but also explores the movement culture of the African and African-American diaspora in the concepts of modern dance. Ancestral Voices, which directed mainly by Linda Goodrich, presented by S/BAD in its 24th year of presenting dance to pay homage to ancestors who have come before us through the language of dance. She was the one who took care of us and took care of my paternal grandmother. Both of my parents dropped out of school at the age between 10 or 12. My father did not like school. The way that he dropped out, his father put him to work in the field of coffee and at the farm. He was a hard working man.
As I have continued to carry on my passions in the school community and through extracurricular activities I believe I will be able to do the same at Saint Francis. One of the many things I am passionate about is soccer, and other sports. I enjoy being a part of a smaller community with the same interest, and passions. I am also interested in being a part of the other clubs at Saint Francis such as photography, baking club, and being a shadow host. One of my favorite activities is to play soccer, I have been playing soccer since a very young age.
If someone told me that I would be a dance major and study at The College at Brockport during my sophomore year of high school, I probably would have thought them to be crazy. Dancing was never meant to be in the picture and it was something that I stumble upon towards my final weeks as a sophomore. I had a choice to between tennis or taking a dance class to fulfill my P.E. requirements. I eventually chose dance and it create a new path for me. Unfortunately, I decided that I want to go into communication during my freshman year at El Paso Community College.

As I walked into the dance studio I realized how small I was compared to the other students in intermediate. I was shorter than the other by a lot, I felt a little awkward around the other girls. I was just glad morgan was there with me and she was short too. The teacher soon showed us our first combination, and it was pretty hard.
One of the most important decisions I’ve made was choosing which high school to go to. It started out as a whim, but it ended up becoming my last hope. When I was 13, I moved to Colorado the summer before starting 8th grade. Shortly after, I happened to overhear some kids in my new neighborhood talking about how they were going to Frederick High School, so I assumed that was the only school nearby, and that was where I would end up too. It wasn’t exactly a concrete decision, but it was something that I had readily accepted as a fact.
I would like to be a member of the Honors Program as I feel that I am a person that exudes what should be expected of an Honors Student. I have the personal belief that any member of the Honors Program should be hardworking, dedicated, diligent, and enjoy a challenge. Sure, I can just take regular courses like other students, but I am not like any other student. I enjoy a challenge.
Walking in my freshman year into drill team, my love for dance grew tremendously. Drill team has helped me venture out into more styles and ways of dancing, and has without a doubt been my favorite. To be a Kilgore College Rangerette, would be an absolute dream come true. The amount of time I would spend putting in all the work would be worth every second. Watching them perform live on their field, made me want to work even harder to become one.
Ever since i was young i fell in love with the art of dance. When i finally joined i felt like i was a little behind hence everyone was in my class was dancing since they were toddlers. My first day of dance was pretty nerve racking. My teacher would say to do something and i wouldn't know what to do because i didn't know any dance vocabulary. I would have to look around and try to fit in as much as possible so my teacher wouldn't think i wasn't fit for the class.
