• Daniel Boone, was an American pioneer, explorer, woodsman and is one of the most widely known American frontiersman.
• Born: 2 November 1734, Daniel Boone Homestead, Exeter Township, Pennsylvania, United States.
• His father, Sir Squire Boone was a blacksmith and a weaver who met his wife, Sarah Morgan in Pennsylvania after emigrating from England. • Daniel, who was the couple’s sixth child, received very little education. Daniel learned most schooling from his mother who taught him how to read and write and his father played a big role in teaching him wilderness education skills which was very important in his later life.

• They eventually after a long period of time, had 10 children together.
• His son, Nathan Boone, was the first ever white man born in Kentucky.
• Boone continually supported his growing family in these important years as a market hunter and trapper.
• After the French and Indian War (1754-1763) broke out between the French and the British, the governor of North Carolina, Matthew Rowan called up a military person, into which Daniel volunteered to do.
• In 1767, Daniel led his first ever expedition in the area of Floyd County, Kentucky. This was a special moment in his lifetime.
• In 1773, Daniel undertook to lead his very own and other important several other families, but unfortunately, the group was attacked by Cherokee Indians just beyond the final settlement.
• Two people of the group, including Boone’s beloved son James, were sadly captured, tortured and murdered leading to death.
• The Wilderness Road was a very popular route used by many settlers for more than 5 years.
• The road was used to reach Kentucky from the East.

• Daniel didn’t go on many dangerous voyages, but when he did he enjoyed it and was willing to explore parts of America as his life revolved around exploring. He was a fearless, influential and brilliant fighter who fought in the French Indian War.
• Daniel Boone changed the world by opening the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap in the Appalachian mountains from North Carolina and Tennessee.
• His trip to the Wilderness Road helped many people travel to Kentucky from the East. By the end of the 18th century, more than 200,000 Americans migrated to Kentucky/Virginia by following the route marked by Daniel.
• Daniel Boone sadly died on September 26, 1820, at his home which was 2 months short of his 86th birthday.
• He died of natural causes, and some say he died from acute indigestion from eating too many sweet potatoes.
• His final words were “I’m going now, my time has come”.
• He was buried next to his beloved wife Rebecca who had died 7 years before his death.
• Daniel Boone remains an iconic and influential figure in American history.
