In the Registered Psychotherapist article, “Stranger Things as an Analogy for the Effects of Mental Illness on Family, Friends, and Society”, by Daniel Farb, Farb explains how the new Netflix original series gives insight to the struggles of mental illnesses. Farb does this by giving examples from the series and explains how this shows some sort of mental illness. Unfortunately, this does not go well for Will as the monster shows that it has complete control over Will. This quote helps relate the concept that something has control of you and won’t let you live your life, which relates to mental illness of depression. The article opens up by explaining the Montauk Experiment. Gonzales also explains how Stranger Things was originally supposed to be called Montauk and was going to take place in Montauk, New York. Even with the change of title and location that the series is shot at the same theme stuck for the show.
