Becoming a member of a SEAL team is an honor recognized by many but granted to few. Members of Special Operations teams are the absolute best that America has to offer—they must be disciplined, loyal, adaptable, skillful, and athletic beyond any normal standards. Danny Dietz was one of the few who claimed the prestigious title of “SEAL” and represented America by fighting to defend our freedoms. This man gave the ultimate sacrifice of his life and demonstrated true servant leadership. His memory lives on forever through the hearts and minds of his family and friends, and through the everyday tasks of service members today. Known to many as one of the men from “Lone Survivor”, his heroic actions are honored each and every day that we raise our flag in the land of the free. Danny was born on January 26, 1980 in Aurora, Colorado to Danny Phillip, Sr. and Cindy Dietz. He grew up and wanted to pursue the service, so he enlisted in the Navy on August 1, 1999. First, he went to Pensacola to complete Gunner’s Mate “A” School but then transferred to BUDS where he pursued SEAL training. The mission, partially successful, gained reconnaissance but the Taliban came out with the overall advantage. In the time after the attack, they gained notoriety for their attack—especially for taking down the support helicopter that contained eight SEALS and eight Army Commandos.
