Dizon, Nadine C. MA-COM I The three “points” I will be discussing in this paper are the case studies from each of the sections of the course. The case study on Defamation was about Chicago Police Officer Richard Nuccio who shot a civilian and Elmer Gertz who was the lawyer hired by the victim’s family.
Matt Taibbi’s “The Divide” uses extensive research to attempt to contradict the understanding of our nonpartisan justice system. According to Taibbi, while poverty has increased, crime has decreased, and the jail population has increased 600% since 1991 (page xvi). He states while individuals are being prosecuted based on race and financial status. In which Taibbi argues that other offenders are not being prosecuted compared to minority groups.

In “What Could be Better than a Touchdown” the author explains why a touchdown might not have been the best thing to do at the moment. The author says the New York Jets safety Dwight Lowery “breaks toward the ball, intercepts it, and dashes 26 yards into the end zone...and also, perhaps a mistake?”. Even though a touchdown is great, it’s not always the best option. The smartest option for Dwight Lowery was to drop to a knee, and let the offense run out the clock. If Lowery were to fumble, the Vikings would have had the ball “with two minutes left in the game” the Vikings would have been down by two”.
I will include a video clip later on. You can see in the video how the crowd is going absolutely mad over the touchdown made by the Bears. The crowd quiets for a moment as the flags fall to the turf. Everyone is waiting to see if the penalty is against Stanford or the Bears. The flag belongs to Stanford, and the crowd goes insane.

The inclusion of this allusion allows Dante to add a punishment without explaining the reasons for the punishment directly, allowing him to deliver a concise narration and attack against corruption and
Dumas has made it very clear that Dantes’ view of justice is getting vengeance and he will go to any limit to create misfortune to the people that caused it to him. When people are so simple yet nice, people will try to take advantage of them and try to alter them. Ricardo Melendez is a peak performer because he has achieved many of his dreams and aspirations. Ricardo inspires lots of people because he never stops challenging himself. From having to leave his family and friends in Mexico to going to college in a whole new country with a very different culture, different language and still having to deal with what his future is going to be like. These facts and many more never seemed to have a negative effect on Ricardo because he never sees his failures as failures, Ricardo thinks that the best thing you can do is fail because if you fail you will learn and show everyone that you can be as good as others.

Even after their emancipation, African Americans struggled with exclusion, whether it be direct, indirect, political, social or other. James Baldwin, an African American man, contrasts the types of oppression he, and others, have faced in “A Letter to my Nephew” , drawing parallels from slavery to the discrimination of the 60’s. He explains how many think blacks must assimilate into “white” culture, but, in reality, it must be those who think that way who must escape from the mentality of needing to assimilate.
In The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, the plot follows Oscar as he navigates through life. Initially, it is established that Oscar does not apply to the preconceived stereotypes of the woman-objectifying alpha male in the Latin American culture, el machismo. Oscar defies his culture; specifically in his view of love. Reinstated many times throughout the plot, the men Oscar surrounds himself with have one view of women, to merely hookup with them and to always hit on them. Oscar, although fascinated by sex and its pleasures, is desperately focused on finding romantic love.
Depth of field/framing/Distance: long distance shots are used in order to highlight the importance of the landscape and nature vastness over the human character. The importance of the sublime is fundamental in this first scene, and long distance shots are very likely to be used to provide a solitude feeling when facing that speechless environment. SOUND Dialogue: It is basically non-existent apart from some sentences said by the driver. Some other are set on screen by using titles.
Dante made Satan the way he did because Dante fears Satan. Dante wants his reader to know that Satan is not someone that people want to meet. My character Tony D’Amato is a veteran coach of the Miami sharks a once great American football team and is trying to lead them to victory one last time. My character seems to be very respected for his success and devoted to coaching his football team and nothing else that he has become estranged from his wife and kids. He comes across to be very hard working, intelligent, religious, and afraid of failure. He seems that he wants to make no mistakes, and is focused on one thing, to coach his football team and nothing else, that he has become so self-centered, and greedy that he hasn’t even bothered to pick up the phone and call his own son in over a year. He seems to unhappy with how things are going in his personal life that he finally decides
