Prince Oroonoko, the least knowledgeable with respect to Western knowledge of the time, is limited by his own lack of skepticism. Secondly Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz is quite knowledgeable, but limited by her gender. Leaving Rene Descartes (maybe the most knowledgeable) to only be limited by his own questions of what can be considered knowledge.
I. Edmund Dante Looks like a humble man until he went down to prison where his true hate comes out as it rightfully should. A. Edmund developed quite an anger after he found out about the person that had put him in prison. 1. After he found out about this unjust imprisonment “his eyes flashed with hatred as he thought of the three men to whom he owed his long and cruel captivity, and he renewed the oath of vengeance against Danglars, Fernand and Villefort which he had already sworn in prison.” (85) 2. This quote proves that he appears very mad at anyone at this point for this unjust imprisonment.

Dantes is narrating his thoughts in this quote, He is feeling very dejected and mournful in Prison. This quote also emphasize how humans only call upon on god when they are in need of miracles. 3.
Knowledge is the condition of knowing something. When given it does not decrease, but will only increase. It is collective thoughts and experiences people go through. Books are the greatest source of knowledge and help develop the human mind. Knowledge also helps people not commit the same mistakes again and again.
In Dante’s Inferno, he writes about his journey through hell for the purpose of recognizing his sins. He goes through this journey with Virgil, a voice of reason for Dante. Dante meets people through his journey of the many circles in the Inferno that lead him down into the center of hell, where Satan is. Satan is seen as being monster-like with three heads, representing a mocking of the Trinity and blowing his wings around the cocytus river. The final thing seen here is the fact that Dante’s description of Satan is a bit disappointing compared to the other descriptions he has written about the inferno.
Virgil answers Dante’s questions, some simple and others quite profound. Every time, Virgil has an eloquent response to the question. Virgil is the perfection of the human intellect, capable of understanding so much of the world without God. He seems to know all that could be known about Hell, and the sinners within. A good government will allow science and philosophical thought flourish.
Knowledge can be compared to a torch, or fire. Fire brings light and can help guide us through darkness. At the same time, fire, when not used wisely or contained, can lead to destruction.
