Religion is one of the most spoken subjects in the PSAs that we have done over the semester. This is most likely due to the role it plays in people’s lives and how easily it can affect the society of the people that believe in it. In the Book of the Maghrib and The Tao-Te Ching, we are able to see the roles and effects that the two very different religions play in the everyday lives of the people during their times.
In the Book of the Maghrib, the main religion spoken about is the Muslim religion, while in The Tao-Te Ching speaks of Taoism. These two religions differ in drastic ways. For instance, the religion of Islam seems to focus itself more on the worshiping of their one and only God, Allah. However, Taoism, also known as Daoism, is more of a philosophy that, according to our text book, focuses on setting “proper forms of behavior for human beings” (Pg. 75) in order for them to reach Heaven. …show more content…

In The Tao-Te Ching, it is said that the way is “regarded as the mother of Heaven and Earth” and is how everything in the world works and came to be. The Tao-Te Ching talks more on the ways that people should follow “the way”. Such as taking “emptiness to the limit” and maintaining tranquility, On the other hand, Muslims followed what was called the “Five pillars of Islam” , which was more like a list of rules that Muslims were expected to follow within their worshipping rather than a spiritual passage of life. The first of the five pillars is the belief that Allah is the only god and that Muhammad is his prophet. This pillar is followed by rules such as praying five times daily while facing Mecca and so
