Imagine your grandpa is so very ill that you have to go visit him in Iran. With a series of events you end up finding a new found best friend. That is the very true story of what happened to Darius, when Darius went to Iran he didn’t expect anything too special. All he had in mind was to see his grandpa for the very last time. Throughout the book you’ll see Darius have relationships grow and fall, especially with his new friends. Darius has had many altercations through the story. In the book Darius shows metamorphosis as a coming of age because after he arrives in Iran he and his dad’s relationship starts to improve. Through the entire story you can see that Darius and his dad have an okay relationship but, after Darius runs away after he gets yelled at by Sohrab his dad searches for him on the roof. Darius’s dad states, “I’m so sorry, son. I love you so much.”...“You’re okay,” he murmured.” To which Darius responded, “No. I’m not.” Darius’s dad states, “I know. And I had. Really”(Khorram 299). This quote helps explain the change of his metamorphosis. At the beginning of the story, he didn’t like the idea of going to Iran or leaving the U.S. but, now his feelings have switched and now Darius is upset that he has to leave all the people in Iran he just found and made relationships with. This helps me realize that, even though Darius didn’t like Iran at first, after he created new bonds with people living in Iran, enjoyed making tea and finding his culture, he realized that he was now upset at the fact that he had to leave Iran and all the new people he
