In The Crucible, I noticed many dark forces. The ones that stuck out to me the most were the girls because they were mischievous. Thomas Putnam was a dark force in the story because he was trying to get people of the town killed so he could acquire their land. Abigail was a character that stood out as a dark force because he wanted Mrs. Proctor dead so she could be with John Proctor.
The young girls in the story were badly behaved. The girls pretended to have spells casted on them to try and get themselves out of trouble for not following the rules. Throughout the story, the girls lied about almost everything they were confronted with. They lied about the people that were accused of being witches, they lied about the bird that was supposedly in the church, and they lied about what actually happened in the woods. I think this personally because she is selfish and is willing the tear apart a family just for her own happiness. I also think she causes most of the trouble. She is a very miserable character, and she isn’t afraid to make everyone else around her suffer also. She sets Mrs. Proctor up, and stabbed herself with a needle to make it look like Elizabeth was casting spells on her to get her in trouble when she is questioned about being a witch. She does this because her and John Proctor committed adultery and Abigail is still in love with John but he doesn’t feel the same way about her. John Proctor tells Abigail that she needs to stay away from him and that he is happy with his family. She doesn’t like that, so she thinks that if she gets Elizabeth convicted of witchcraft, John and her can finally be together. Abigail does end up getting Mrs. Proctor convicted, but John doesn 't want anything to do with Abigail after that. Abigail ends up running away because her plan didn’t work out the way she wanted it to. Abigail was definitely a negative force in this
