As the wind blows past Harry’s face, a part of him begins to fade away, including his memories as a human on earth. The story “Dark They Were and Golden Eyed,” by Ray Bradbury, is a story about a father named Harry trying to take care of his family, on the planet Mars. Harry notices that the planet Mars was changing, so he tried to build a rocket ship to go back to earth. In the end, Harry ends up not finish building the rocket and everyone on the planet ends up turning into a martian. This story tells the readers that when something looks suspicious, try and be aware of it. When the atom bomb destroyed the space rockets in New York, Harry’s family was unable to go back to Earth. This stranded his family on Mars and they had to wait until the humans on earth built another rocket to Mars. In the middle of the story, Harry realized that everything on Mars was changing, including the humans that lived there. Harry begins to get even more anxious and worried that he decide to build a rocket all by himself. He also noticed that humans on Mars began to speak the martian language. Harry was the only person who was actually afraid of being on Mars, unlike everyone else. For example, when Harry points out to Sam that he had yellow eyes, Sam replies back “Is that so Harry?”, not seeming concerned. At the end of the story, when all the food in the deep freeze was gone, Harry began to eat the martian food and felt less stressed. In the end, Harry also let his son rename himself to Flynn, even though he didn’t want him to in the beginning. Harry also decided to go to the Villa, until autumn and afterwards, would go back to his metal shop and finish the rocket. Instead, Harry changed his mind and decided to stay in the Villa and did not complete the rocket. All these changes point to Harry becoming more like a
