Date rape is a recurrent thing going on in today’s society. Many people are unaware of date rape. Date rape is when you are out with someone and they take advantage and sexually assault you, sometimes without your consent and lack of knowledge. The assault can happen anywhere at any given time on a date or at a party. College campuses is an example where date rape can mostly occur. There are many causes of date rape, causes that includes the way you are dressed, miscommunication and drugs and alcohol. Date rape, also known as acquaintance, is a sexual assault or attempted sexual assault committed by someone the sexual assault victim knows (date or acquaintance rape resources). It is only through this lens that we may grasp how women's seemingly affectionate words and/or actions can be perceived by male perpetrators as verbal and/or nonverbal cues of sexual desire (Weltz). One should keep in mind that date rapists are looking for these cues to give them, in their distorted perspective, approval to become more sexually aggressive (Weltz).
