In 1689, the British and the French entered a long period of frequent warfare known as the Second One Hundred Years’ War. The British government had to start directing its focus towards the French rather than its colonies in the New World. Due to the constant warfare, the British did not enforce the Navigation Acts that regulated and controlled trade going to and from the colonies. This sort of political and economic strategy was called salutary neglect. The Americans enjoyed minimal interference in their trading and the American economy grew and developed under this salutary neglect.
When looking at the cover of this book, one may think that the rest of the book will only get better from there. They will be greatly disappointed when they finish the whole book and realize that when they looked at the cover, they encountered the most interesting part of the whole book. Failures of the Presidents does not exceed or even fulfill the expectations the reader has for this book. If someone wrote a book called “Failures of the History Books”, this book would get its deserving spot on the top of the list. Failures of the Presidents by Thomas Craughwell is a nonfiction history book.
Kamarck (2016) tackles directly the question as to how Presidents can utilize the massive bureaucracy they are tasks to lead. Unfortunately, in her view, the answer seems to be not very well. Kamarck contends that one recurring type of Presidential failure, “crash and burn spectaculars” can be attributed to Presidents’ inability to effectively manage the vast resources of the executive branch. Pointing to failures by Presidents Carter, Bush Jr., and Obama, Kamarck identifies three common reasons for these Presidential failures: failure of information to get to the President in order to prompt effective decision making, failure of Presidents to see early warning signs of disasters, and failure to understand the capacity of the government
The National Security Act of 1947 created the National Security Council (NSC), formally designating several military members to provide direct advice to the president. The newly-created Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) and the separate Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force were the original statutory members, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) were represented by the SECDEF to ensure foreign policies were consistent with military capabilities. Since 1947, the role of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has evolved, and they have periodically held executive authority over theater or area commanders in chief (CINC), but they have consistently functioned as the managers of each of their services separately. The issue of their role within the NSC was resolved in the 1986 Goldwater-Nichols DOD Reorganization Act, which clearly designated the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) as the principle military advisor to the President, and removed the Chiefs from the chain of command of combatant forces. Arguably the biggest impact of the Goldwater-Nichols Act was to identify the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as the leader among equals, representing the service chiefs and combatant
The presidential selection process was also a problem during the Constitutional Convention. The Virginia Plan suggested that the president should be selected by Congress because its members had the best knowledge and understanding of how the presidential selection process worked. In Federalist Paper No. 68, Hamilton asserted that the “men most capable of analyzing the qualities,” hence the members of Congress, to select the president since they had enough information on the presidential candidates to evaluate and make a reasoned judgment on which candidate would fit best in the president position. Pennsylvania delegate James Wilson, on the other hand, opposed this idea and suggested that the president should be selected by ordinary citizens.
The United States Presidential election that took place in the year 2000 was between George Bush and Al Gore. The vote was very close and it ended up all coming down to Florida. Once the votes were counted and it was revealed that Bush had won, Gore wanted a recount of the votes. The matter was taken to the Florida supreme court and Gore ended up winning the case.
According to California legislative Information website, you have to meet the business and profession code in order to become a paralegal in California, and you have to possess at least one of the following: A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association; a certificate of completion of a paralegal program with a minimum of 24 semesters; a baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject, a minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California; and a high school diploma. In addition to that, I am taking the paralegal course at CCSF as well.
When I had my son I hadn’t accomplished all I wanted to with a career or schooling. All I knew is that I wanted to do something I liked, benefited from emotionally, mentally and financially and made me happy with the career path I had taken. Then I found it and here I am! Upon looking up schooling for medical billing and coding I discovered information on the
After a soundly defeat in the Colorado convention over the weekend, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump blasted Colorado's GOP leaders for running a "rigged, disgusting, dirty system." "We found out in Colorado this is not a democracy like we’re supposed to have," Trump said at Albany's Times Union Center in downtown Albany. "The system, folks, is rigged. It’s a rigged, disgusting, dirty system."

Through self-reflection and academic readings, I have discovered that I identify with three different leadership theories. During the first meeting in a Strength Based Leadership class, we were asked to write our leadership history. The class then began an ongoing exploration of various leadership theories. Upon reviewing my leadership history from the first class and synthesizing the information from the theories that were examined, I discovered that I most resonate with the Trait Leadership Theory, the Skills Leadership Theory, and the Path-Goal Leadership theory. These theories are leader focused, describing the process and techniques a leader uses to accomplish goals.
Individual Reflective Paper Introduction Leadership, a controversial concept, has been studied for centuries. Scholars who study leadership have argued with the insight of leadership for many decades and finally promote a wide range of understandings of it. This course “values and leadership” introduces the basic principles and concepts about leadership, and provides us with some conceptual knowledge and practical approaches to be an outstanding leaders. I chose to take this course because I am interested in the topic about leadership.
Nice discussion post this week! You start off with a great definition of what leadership is. To me, it is hard to define what leadership is, especially in one sentence, but I agree with you that leadership is the action of leading others or an organization. I feel like it is when someone steps up and goes into the unknown as well. It is also important to mention that it is never just one single person.
