The novel “The Circle”, written by Dave Eggers, is a powerful technology company. The Circle is being run by Three Wise Men. The company is focusing on improving social media towards the public. The company is showing how technology is a huge effect on the community. The Circle’s purpose is trying to make the peoples’ lives simpler. Their advancement of technology is helping businesses expand. Eggers point of view of technology is its causing separation from others. Evidently, this is being seen through in Mae’s character. This is being seen through how Mae’s bond with Annie is being separated. She feels that Mae cares more about herself than their friendship. As shown in this quote “Annie’s tone took on a new edge, at that moment Mae knew she would begin lying to Annie” (Eggers 226). In this scene, Annie is furious with Mae. Annie is angry with her because she can’t understand why is Mae risking her job. Mae shouldn’t keep Kalden identity a secret. She should always be honest to Annie as she cares about Mae. Another point that Eggers talks about in the novel is the argument of privacy. The Circle created a program called ChildTrack. Some people are saying this a good idea for parents to keep track of their children's location. However, when their children grow up then they will have no privacy. That is a concern because having no privacy will cause problems. This describes in this quote “ They follow the chips but when they get to the chips, all seven tracking to some parking lot, they find them all in a paper bag, all bloody just the chips” (Eggers 88). Even though this program is helping to fix the community, it is justifying itself on being used in a harsh way. Child Track also violates your human rights. In this article, it is talking about how ChildTrack is affecting the boundaries of your freedom. Being tracked all the time is causing danger for all the
