Today we are going to be jumping into a story that I am sure most of you are familiar with, but today I hope that you look at it with fresh eyes this morning and gain a new understanding. I am going to be jumping through this text so you can just follow me as I go and it is the text of first Samuel Chapter 17. This scripture is the story of David and Goliath. Some of you this morning have giants in your life. Things that you are facing. Obstacles in front of you that just seem too big for you to overcome. So picture Shaq on steroids and you have Goliath. He is a giant and he is effective in warfare. He has a history of conquering and killing. Then is Verse 5 it says “[a] 5 He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels[b]; 6 on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. 7 His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels.[c]” Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Choose a man and have him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.” If you translate the verse where he says am I not a Philistine He doesn’t say am I not a Philistine, He says and I not THE PHILISTINE. What he is saying is look at me! You have come to fight me? Really? You think you can stand a chance against me. Look at me and look at my history of winning and winning and winning.
