David Bowie once said, "You can neither win nor lose if you don't run the race.", let’s just say Bowie did a lot more than win it. Bowie swayed millions of people through his art, his words changed people’s lives forever. Bowie not only charmed people with eccentricity like they had never seen before, he drew people in by being so outlandish and different than societal standards. He always aspired to be more than human and that’s just what he did. How much do you really know about “Bowie”? Many people know him by the name of David Bowie, but his real name is David Robert Jones. Jones was born in Brixton, England on January 8, 1947. One year later, they had a baby boy whom they named Zowie. Zowie was then known as Joey, then Joe, and finally Duncan. David and Angie were struggling with making time due to Bowie’s time-consuming career, and soon their relationship fell apart. They got divorced in 1980 and David was granted custody of 9-year-old “Zowie” (RollingStone.com). In 1990 David met the love of his life, Iman Abdulmajid. He later told HELLO! Magazine about the night they met, "That she would be my wife, in my head, was a done deal,” he gushed. “I'd never gone after anything in my life with such passion in all my life. I just knew she was the one,” (Biography.com). They got married in 1992 in Tuscany, Italy and 8 years later they had a baby girl whom they named Alexandria. David’s life almost seemed “next-to-perfect” but he struggled with more than a divorce in 1980. David had health problems even after quitting drugs. In 2004 he had a heart attack onstage while performing on tour in Prague, Czech Rep. Bowie was later diagnosed with liver cancer which became terminal 15 months later. David received over 25 awards for music and film. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. David’s life was in such brittle hands because of his intense drug use and depression that he dealt with as a teen and young adult. By the time he was happily married and over drugs, it was too late.
