David Robert Jones, more commonly known as David Bowie, was one of the greatest musical inspirations in the history of Pop and Rock music. He was an actor, musician, singer, a role model for many people, and much more. David had many influential people in his life that got him to where he was. He also had many conflicts in his life that he got through to make him a stronger person. David’s parents also played a huge role in his life and who he is. All of these things made him very important and lead to his awards and how successful he was. David Bowie had a very important and interesting childhood. David was born in Brixton England on January 8th, 1947. At the time, Brixton was mundate, down to earth, and run down. It was poor, grimy, and full of working class people. For many people this was not the best town to grow up in. Even though he didn’t grow up in a great neighborhood, this didn’t stop him from reaching his goals. David’s parents were Margaret Mary Jones (also known as Peggy) and Haywood Stenton Jones. Peggy and Haywood stayed married until death. “ David once said, “My father opened up my world because he taught me the habit of reading. I got so much information, so many of the things I wanted to do came from books” (22). Although David got some good parts of his personality from his father, he also developed a chain smoking addiction just like Haywood had. It made him a stronger person and he knew not to rely on people too much for his happiness but at the same time. For the bad, it affected his early childhood and he didn’t feel the love from his parents that every child wants. Continuing with childhood, there was one thing that changed David’s appearance. When David was in school, his classmate and good friend, George liked a girl named Carol. David told george Carol didn’t like him because David liked her and wanted her for himself. George got mad and punched David in the face. The punch hit David at a bad angle and scratched his eye. It caused the iris to become paralyzed. This is the reason why David has one blue eye. Little did David know this was going to be an important part of his look later on in his
