David Carson is one of the world’s greatest graphic designers. He had his own unique style and is known as the godfather of grunge typography. Not only is he one of the greatest graphic designers, he’s also a professional surfer and has ranked 9th greatest in 1989. His most famous work involved the cover he made for Ray Gun magazines in the 90’s. In 1995, he created his own graphic design company labeling it, David Carson Designs. He signed contract with a host of major corporate clients, including Nike, Pepsi Cola, Ray Bans, Levi Strauss and MTV Global among others. When he worked with Pepsi for an advertisement, he showed a long paragraph of text in the shape of a Pepsi can or bottle, making an entire paragraph saying all kind of things that relate to every part of the demographic in some way. Using a black color font, capitals, and the same size of the typography reading all the expectations people had running through the center of the bottle with big font for the important text. The design incorporated the fact that Pepsi is a drink by drawing the text with details surrounding it, in the shape of a bottle. Carson is a skilled artist in drawing; He hand draws all his cover designs before running it through the program. Another cool cover art he designed was a surf magazine called lost and found. He used a 3D style image in the center, one blue one red. The red one is standing normally with a surfboard on his side pointing down. The blue one is the figure standing upright with the board on his side going straight left and right cover the page.
