Today, I am going to talk about David Filo and the background of his life but also him as an entrepreneur. The company was founded in January 1994 and used by 1995. At the beginning, the name was "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web”, and later changed to Yahoo! which stood for “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle”. The reason behind the exclamation point to the name Yahoo is other companies had a trademark of Yahoo. David Filo was born on April 20th,1966 in Wisconsin and is still alive today. They abandoned their school work and started surfing the web. Again and again, they would keep finding websites that interested them, but as they tried finding it again, it wasn't possible to do. Together, they came up with a list of sites that interested them, and organized them into topics, and then made a search engine. This made internet searches so much easier by allowing people to type in key words to find the right sites instantly. These days,I am mostly using Google daily to do my work. I use it to do everything from writing papers to emailing my teachers. Google is better than Yahoo! Today, I would say that Yahoo! isn't in competition with its competitors. Companies such as Google and Facebook have overtook the internet world and made it hard for Yahoo! Back in the 1995, the company was known for finding a way to organize the documents into topics and then down into subtopics, but ever since Google was invented,Google has over run Yahoo! Many believe that Google is doing better than Yahoo! But I have come to believe that Yahoo! is truly better than Google. Yahoo! has created services that Google cant beat such as, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Answers: Q and A, Flickr,entertainment, and privacy. To star off, he had vision to figure out a website that would let you type in keywords and find the results right away. When he first started, he would become frustrated to not be able to find that same site that interested him before. This lead to the insights of the company. Taking of this point, he had perseverance when he was building his company. Although he failed many times to make the product he wanted, overtime, he collected more and more information and succeeded. He kept his mind to what he envisioned and made it happen. Finally, Filo had passion for what he was doing. He always liked the computer industry, but he didn't like the field he was in. He and his partner Jerry Yang both dropped their “computer chips using computer-aided design program” class to start the base of Yahoo! The two spent hours a day researching and making what is Yahoo!
