1. My 2 best picks 1a. 1953 Refugee Releif act: I liked this act because America wasn 't afraid or scared about others, they took in 200,000 refugees and saved them from the war torn contrie they lived in. 1b.1980 Refugee act: This act sperated the refugee numbers and the imagration numbers allowing more refugees and imagrants to get the chance to enter the united states to get nationality 2. The Syrian problem is growing into the biggest migration crisis in Europe. At the moment, there are over 9 million refugees seeking asylum. In 2012, when the refugees mostly fled to neighboring countries and Turkey,

Syrian Refugee Crisis Melissa Fleming is the head of communications for the UN's High Commissioner for Refugees. In a spech she did on TedTalk.com she talks about a 19 year old Syrian refugee named Doah who fled from Egypt with her boyfriend and 500 other refugees. While on their journey across the Mediterranean Sea their boat was attacked and ends up sinking. Doah did everything she could to stay alive while she waited for someone to rescue her and two small children that were given to her by a couple of parents who ended up drowning. Melissa Fleming uses the rhetorical strategies of pathos, logos, and ethos to convey her story of the capsized Syrian refugee boat, but her strength lies mainly in her use of pathos.
Throughout this article, President Donald Trump and the Republicans support the ban for the eastern Muslim refugees and non-United States citizens’ multiple visas. The author, Ismail Einashe, influences the reader to believe the ban is cruel and appeals to the readers’ emotions in the article, “For Dual Nationals, Trump’s Muslim Ban Is a Curse”. The statement, “The Trump ban has unfairly targeted people like me”, is a liberal bias because it makes you feel and believe the information before the writer states the evidence or support. Ismail comments that he was also born in Somalia and feels threatened by Trump’s ban. Ismail also includes his own personal bias, so this is another area where the writer has persuaded the reader to believe the
The second part is the audience. The audience involves only those individuals who are capable of being swayed by discourse and of being mediators of change. Bitzer states that the
In the book The Remaining Refugees by D. J. Molles, there are multiple special objects/settings, including the grill they use to draw in the infected, the Humvee they use to transport too and from Camp Ryder, and the Camp Ryder building. A major object in this book is the grill that Harper set up to draw in the infected… It’s an old camp stove that they set up with a pan of old animal guts cooking in it, because nothing gets their attention like the smell of cooking meat. They typically set it up near the middle of town, and draw in every last one in the area.
Using all three appeals adheres to audience of all sorts, strengthening one’s
Awareness: “the quality that allows [the speaker] choice over [their] actions. Developing awareness allows [the speaker] to pick up the behaviors that serve [their] audience” (Lloyd-Hughes). Empathy: to begin a speech “from the perspective of the audience, seeking primarily to serve their aims” (Lloyd-Hughes). Freshness: the ability to be “unique, spontaneous and memorable” (Lloyd-Hughes). Balance: the ability to determine which information is added or removed in order to connect with an audience on a profound level.
There are excellent examples of that on graduation speeches. Ed Helms, famous actor, gave an effective speech on the Cornell class of 2014 because he knew who their audience was, he used correctly
In this review, I shall dwell into the different strategies Donald Trump uses to talk about issues like immigration. The main body of my review is divided into three paragraphs: first, second and third. In the first paragraph, I critically assess the environment the voters are surrounded by have an effect on how voters react to candidates. In the second
Rhetoric is defined as the art of persuasion using oral or written communications (Rapp). There are many theories and ideas which an orator or writer can use as tools to achieve their goal of persuading an audience. The audience is defined in rhetoric as “the listeners or spectators at a speech or performance, or the intended readership for a piece of writing or an assembled and pointed group of listeners that receive the message of the rhetor and ultimately decide the message’s effectiveness” (Enos). Within the study of rhetoric the focus is on what the speaker or writer does to create the affect and response they want from their audience; in this essay I will describe the audience and their role in the communications throughout
Each response is influenced by individual race, gender, and ethnicity. Despite immigration’s necessity to this, Jacob G. Hornberger’s “Keep the Borders Open” in which he argues the case of keeping borders always open “for people traveling inside the United States but also for people traveling or moving to the United States” is not correct (Hornberger, Jacob G. 1). Having open borders prohibits unity and dissolves individual identity; it also breeds anarchy within a nation. There must be order within a country and allowing everyone into an area strains resources, while no security creates chaos and mass terror. With open borders and thus overpopulation, a country will be unable to uphold its beliefs and will fall to disparities within social class, old prejudices, and government corruption.
The world is watching us. Now is the time for each and every one to take responsibility.” Conclusion Though Europe seems to be rumbling slowly toward a solution, the migrant crisis looks sure to get worse before it gets better. Authorities are struggling to cope with managing large groups of migrants, let alone processing their asylum claims.
