The start points of the authors' perspective on Los Angeles are different. The Nathanael West views the Hollywood as a lower class; Todd Hackett was just one of many set designers in Hollywood. In the 1940s, the city's development could not handle the amount of influx of people. They came to Los Angeles with hopes and dreams in bare hands.
