Beep Beep Honk Honk! These are typical sounds as cars pass by driving on roads having to repeat the same pattern every day. Some big, some small; these cars help carry goods and people to reach their destination on our roadways. Most people never think about how our road system began. In ancient Rome, there was a saying, ”all roads lead to Rome” (Doc. 3). This was because the Roman empire was famous for transportation and their road systems. Many different types of vehicles are used today to carry goods across countries by the way of similar road systems. This is one example of how ancient innovations still influence our lives today. The Romans were known for their everlasting roads that was built about 85,000 km of roads across the whole empire (Doc. 3). They used them to “link far-away provinces with Rome” (Doc. 3), sell goods and food, and lastly move soldiers. Today we use roads that lead to interstates, highways, traffic lights and many others. Furthermore, we also use different vehicles to get from point A to point B. For instance, we use trains buses, cars, planes, and etcetera. As you can see, there is a big difference from back then compared to today. This is one way that ancient civilization have had an influence on our modern world. Next the calendar is another innovation during the middle ages. Pope Gregory created the calendar which is called the Gregorian calendar present day (Doc. 4). It was in 1582 when Pope Gregory introduced the Gregorian calendar (OI). Thanks to Pope Gregory, we can keep track of the dates and get to our important events. Today, calendars are everywhere. This is another example how the classical period affects our world
