During the worldwide silver production that occurred during the 1500s to 1750s, it has caused much conflict due to selfishness and bias acts between countries. From the abuse of putting countries in debt and making the people resort to land sharks, to having priests do their best efforts in convincing officials to end the suffering of people working hard only to receive little in return. The Chinese suffered in debt due to the greediness of the Spanish. The rich were always focused on materialistic things and were selfish, while the poor who were taken advantage of were much more humble, wise, and focused on virtue rather than riches (Doc. 1). China would resort to loan sharks, only putting them deeper in debt due to not being able to paying back all the debts with their little earnings (Doc. 5). With the increase of the world silver production, it only caused the Europeans to grow selfish with their earnings. The Portuguese would buy all of Japan’s silver and goods, taking advantage of the trade of luxury (Doc. 4). However, an imbalance of trade occurred between Asia and Europe by Asia receiving luxury goods while Europe received regular goods. It was believed that Asia had the upper-hand during the trade, due to the fact that they were receiving the gold and silver. A beneficial act on China’s part was that because of their desire for luxury goods, it caused them to start a trade with other lands and allowed them to grow economically (Doc. 7). The corruption of Spanish officials and suffering of Indians gave a good example of the effect from selfishness and want for more goods. The Spanish would abuse the labor and earnings of the Indians, take the money for themselves, and give little back to the Indians for the work that they provided (Doc. 6). As the trade of luxury went on, priests began to realize and do their best efforts to encourage officials about how wrong it is to take advantage and grow needy for materialistic things, and how the government should distribute the goods fairly between their people who had a hard time in debt (Doc. 3).
