In the fantasy fiction novel, Dealing With Dragons by Patricia Wrede, a character named Therandil is rendered as a virtuous knight, or prince, but he is really selfish. However, he is still following the Code of Chivalry because he saves princesses, he kills dragons, and he lives by honor, and glory. So, he is a magnanimous prince, or knight, that just wants to follow the Code of Chivalry. Therandil is observing the Code of Chivalry because he saves a princess. In the code, it says that a knight must respect the honor of women, in which Therandil did, by saving Keredwel, a princess, from a dragon. In page 122, it states, “‘I think you should try for Keredwel…You ought to get along with her very well.’ Cimorene said. ‘But everyone expects me to rescue you’ Therandil said. ‘As long as you defeat a dragon and rescue a princess, no one will care,’ Cimorene said firmly. ” This shows that Therandil is required to liberate a random princess from captivity from an evil …show more content…

In the Code of Chivalry, it says that a knight must live by honor and glory, which he did as well, by showing honor by knowing if Cimorene’s leg is broken. In page 114, it states, “‘I was worried,’ Therandil said. ‘I heard that you’d broken a leg, but you look fine to me.’” This shows that Therandil is honest because he wants to know if Cimorene is okay with her broken leg. Furthermore, he has glory for Cimorene because he believes in her. In page 118, it states, “Therandil lowered his voice.‘Should I offer to fight him (the jinn), do you think?’” This explains that Therandil shows his honesty by trying to save Cimorene’s life by killing the strange creature,or the jinn. Furthermore, this shows that he wants to follow the Code of Chivalry by killing a strange creature, which makes him feel honored for that. To end this, the second reason why Therandil follows the Code of Chivalry because he is shown with honor and
