Personal Statement for Deanna Surtees A psychology degree will help me go into my chosen carer as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, or as a counsellor. I am applying to the Psychology degree course so that I can get the necessary knowledge before training to work with a mental health organisation such as Mind or the National Health Service. After completing a degree in Psychology I hope to go on and train to be a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist or counsellor. I hope to work in the community or schools alongside school staff and other mental health services in order to improve the lives of young people with mental health problems. Psychology helps to explain human behaviour, which has always interested me. I find it fascinating how humans can react to the same stimulus differently. The way that we process information as humans also interests me and I am be fascinated by the way that we as humans form memories by rehearsal and transferring memories between different memory stores. …show more content…

The coffee shop I work in has regular customers who are on the autistic spectrum. I have studied AS Level Psychology, AS Level Health and Social Care (Double Award), AS Level Media. I am carrying on A-level Health and Social Care and Psychology. AS Psychology was a stimulating subject to study because it laid down the basics of different therapies and different explanations for human behaviour such as obedience and compliance. AS Health and Social Care links into Psychology by showing the causal relationships between different psychological and physiological disorders.
