Betrayal is one of the most important themes of the play as “death of a salesman” is full of betrayal . indeed the betrayal word was never used throughout the play but it is constantly shown through the actions and toughts of the characters that lead to the failures and misfortunes of willy s diminishing life .
The first time that betrayal becomes apparent in the story is at the beginning of the play when willy is constantly speaks highly of his son biff and admires all of the accomplishments he has maid in high school years however biff in return betrayed his father by refusing to make nothing of himself and walked out at willy s ambitions and dreams because in reality biff was nothing to that extent and he never actually fit into the idea of the American dream . willy on the other hand never allow himself to come to the conclusion that he was a wrong role model

Willy gives stockings to the woman he has an affair with and repeatedly yells at linda for mending her stockings in front of his eyes ( they work as a chief reminder of his affair and his inability to provide for his family).
Unlike linda the other woman was able to feed willy s ego by liking him he is proud of being able to sell himself to her however this feeling will soon shift into shame when he realizes that by giving stocking to the woman rather than his wife he was sabogating his role as a provider he only then came to realize that his love not material items was the sole thing linda needed from him .
Linda was not the only family member to be betrayed by this shameful act will betrayed biff s trust and respect . willy was the one to blame for his son s failure not only due to his affair but also to his impossible expectations and bad
