Structure Organizational structure is “the system of task, reporting, and authority relationships within which the work of the organization is done” (Kirst-Ashman, 2014). Types of structure are formal and informal. Formal structure is guidelines specifying how management thinks the organization should be run (Kirst-Ashman, 2014). Often with formal structure, there is an organizational chart showing who reports to whom. This chart will provide information with designated lines of authority and communication within the agency (Kirst-Ashman, 2004). is formal and informal. There is an executive director at the head of the agency. She is responsible for the place running from the funding stand point and make sure everything is handled legally. She is the lead advocates’ supervisor, and the lead advocate reports to the director. Lead advocate is over all the other advocates. They come to her with their problems or questions. There is an advocate at all times at the shelter. An advocate works at the Students for Violence Prevention at Pittsburg State University. The lead advocate makes calls first thing in the morning to check if there are any issues from the night before or over the weekend to the advocates at the shelter and at the Students for Violence Prevention. The issues may be with clients at the shelter, hotline calls, or various other issues. Staff meets daily to make sure every issue that occurs is addressed. All staff from the Pittsburg Safehouse meet monthly to discuss issues and take suggestions. There are yearly guidelines the advocates have for training sessions. Some classes or trainings they take are Power & Control and Substance abuse. Advocates attend a two-day seminar at the governor’s conference in the spring.
