Holes 1. Stanley keeps walking towards the mountain because he feels that there is water there, and he also wants to find Zero. The whole reason Stanley left was because he was worried about Zero. I guess he felt responsible because if he had said no to Zero about digging his hole, none of this would have happened. Before he left to find Zero, he kept asking himself “what if it’s not too late” as in he could still save Zero and maybe he didn’t die.
In “Abuela invents the zero” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, Connie and her grandmother, Abuela, have many similarities and differences that make each person unique. In the story it says, “My mother and father paid for her way here so that she wouldn’t die without seeing snow, though if you asked me, and nobody has, the dirty slush in this city is not worth the price of a ticket”(Cofer 2). This shows that Abuela would like to see the snow before she dies. It also, shows that Constancia doesn’t think it’s worth coming to see. The text states, “It is January, two inches of snow on the ground, and she’s wearing a shawl over a thick black dress.
Our choices come from our own opinions and the ideas of them come from our surrounding elders. When we are young are parents teach us what is right and wrong. When we are making choices the thoughts and ideas are parents taught us are always in the back of our minds. And as we become older and more mature to make are own choices we usually forget your parents ideas and use yours that are what come from your own heart.
Just because she wasn't herself that night doesn’t give you the right to take advantage of her. In the article, "Getting to 'No' " by Susan Dominus talks about sexual assault and how it affects everyone. Although Dominus talks about her experience and others as well, but she lacks facts to back her up. Young women that are in college are sexual assaulted on campus. Susan Dominus is one of the victims, but she doesn't consider herself one.
Loose Women, is a collection of poetry written by Sandra Cisneros. A wonderful collection of words that speak to the beauty, disgusting, painful, extraordinary things about love, sexuality, women, bodies. Throughout the novel Cisneros revels in sort of “bad girl” image: however the overall persona is that of a passionate, sexual woman who’s had her share of both joy and disappointment. We all know Sandra Cisneros roots come from Mexico and is from Mexican American immigrant family and the culture for her is very different. I can relate to Cisneros’ culture different, since I am from Indian and in India women are considered to be the goddess from ancient time, however they are not being treated like goddess.
Some people call them instincts, but others call them natural tendencies. When people are under pressure, what drives them to make the decisions they make? The novels Night by Elie Wiesel, and A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah help demonstrate why people choose to do certain things. Hope for better circumstances and fear of what could possibly happen is what forces people to make the decisions they make.
Introduction Yvonne Rainer is a well established and a well-recognized Post modern dance choreographer during the 1960s. The 1960s in America was a period where many began to question the ideological beliefs that dominate the political, social and artistic aspects in society. (Walsh) As a result, society in the 1960s started to challenge and rebel against societal norms. This societal change was reflected in dance as well when choreographers started to move away from the norms of modern dance choreographers, thus creating an era of unconventional postmodern choreographers, which is also known as the Judson era. Yvonne Rainer, along with notable choreographers such as Trisha Brown and Steve Paxton, founded the Judson Dance Theatre in 1962,
When Abuela first came, "I try to walk far behind them in public so that no one will think we’re together" (Ortiz-Cofer para 4). This shows that Connie doesn 't care about Abuela 's feelings to an extent that she doesn 't even want to be seen with her. This can prove that Connie made her choice to not help Abuela when she lost her way in the church since she was too embarrassed to be seen with Abuela. Connie would have spent time with Abuela if she cared about her feelings. After Connie made her choices, Abuela said, "You made me feel like a zero, like a nothing" (Ortiz-Cofer para 16).
Since the beginning of the Earth, humans have slowly shown Earth how they can adapt to the surroundings that change ever so slightly. Change is an occurring theme that forces humans with decisions that affect the rest of their lives. It alters our thinking, understanding, and morals. Unlike other organisms, feelings are also a major impact that drives humans to form extensive choices. This alone causes some humans feel as if it is the biggest compelling reason to change based on how they feel about something or someone.
Michael J. Fox said that "family is not an important thing, it's everything". This quote, points to the idea that Michael believes that if everything in the world were to fail, family is the one thing that would remain. In the fictional story "Abuela Invents the Zero" by Judith Ortiz, there is a girl named Constancia, and her grandma is coming to New Jersey for the first time. Her parents tell her to be kind, but in the end, Constancia is very cruel to Abuela and makes her feel "like a zero, like a nothing"( Ortiz paragraph 15). Constancia's actions throughout the story, reveals that she values her self pride more than her family.
The stories “Abuela Invents the Zero” and “A Celebration of Grandfathers” follow the past of a very nice, thoughtful man by the name of Rudolfo Anaya, and the present day of a rude, unthoughtful girl by the name of Constancia. Both of these stories give very different points of views in terms of character personality and respect towards their elders. To begin, both of the stories are based off of the relationship between a grandparent and their grandchild. In “Abuela Invents the Zero”, Constancia’s grandmother went on her first trip to America. She went to America between September and March because the story explained that she wanted to see the snow in America before she died.
This interpretation of the story explains how Connie simply fell prey to the common theme of men acting as predators in society. Therefore, Connie had no say in her fate, so she just decided to go quietly with him. However, this theory completely disregards the psychological disorders that Connie has. Connie did not go quietly with Arnold because he was a dominating male. Instead, Connie left due to her numerous unconscious mental problems.
We are sure that you, too, have experienced similar situations in your life: a certain incident triggered an emotion, and suddenly more and more thoughts came up in your mind, to the exclusion of everything else, to feed this initial emotion. This process is great if the emotion is uplifting and healing, however, we often dwell on thoughts and emotions that cause stress for the body and mind. The only way for you to stop this negative thinking-feeling loop is to become aware of and consciously interrupt your self-defeating thoughts that feed your emotions. Please be aware that even though other people or some situations may trigger all kinds of negative emotions in you, they are never the cause. It is your own perception of the situation and your negative self-talk that are causing, and then entertaining, the painful emotions from your past, such as shame, guilt, frustration, anger, or resentment.
Zak Lipman 10c Line 5 Literature Review What Is Delayed Gratification Delayed gratification also known as deferred gratification, is the ability to resist the temptation for an immediate reward and wait for a later reward. Commonly, delayed gratification is associated with resisting a smaller but more immediate reward in order to receive a larger or more lasting reward later (DeLecce, n.d.). A lot of studies have linked the ability of strong delay gratification to a number of other positive outcomes, such as physical health, psychological health, academic success and social skill (Liu, Wang and Liao, 2016). A person 's ability to delay gratification conveys to other similar abilities such as patience, impulse control, self-control and willpower, all of which are involved in self-regulation.
So making a bad decision is never fun. I’d like to think that most of us prefer not to make them but can’t help to sometimes because we think a bad decision isn’t that bad. It might even be a good one in the right mind set. The point of this paper being to reflect on a pass choice looking at it with the elements of critical thinking. My bad decision is one I think most are guilty of, waiting until the last minute on something important.
