Have you ever done something that you knew was wrong but did it anyway? Most people have. But why is it so terrifying? It's so scary because when you do something wrong, there is always a punishment waiting for you. It's the adrenaline rush before you get caught, that makes people partake in more risky behavior.
People are bad they do so many bad things. They steal and kill other people so that they get what they want. I believe that humans are bad because they kill and steal. William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies shows that humans are bad through killing one another. In the Lord of the Flies Simon is calling out to everyone saying that the beast is not real.
“Demonstrating the choices that characters may make regarding the need for self-prevention versus the need to maintain their moral code" is a common theme in literature. This theme explores the idea that sometimes characters are faced with difficult choices where they must choose between doing what is right and doing what is necessary. In some cases, characters may be forced to compromise their moral code to protect themselves or others. In other cases, characters may choose to maintain their moral code even if it means putting themselves or others in danger. This theme can be found in many different types of literature, including novels, plays, and short stories.
Everybody has made a poor decision before. When several people think their poor choices are okay, they lean towards creating more flaws and doing more harm. This frequently happened in the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding. When Jack commits multiple acts of violence and later enjoys doing worse, like committing murder. To most people, this is perceived as somebody who is desperate for attention, but looking at the psychoanalytic theories, you can see Jack in a new light.
While Simon saw the Lord of the Flies he heard a message that tortures him that “Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill”(143). This demonstrates Simon’s breakthrough that the beast is not real, it cannot be hunted or killed. This further expresses Golding’s belief that the evil or the beast is not a figure which could not be destroyed. While Simon stared at the sow’s head, he heard “You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you”(143).
Decision Making In Lord of the Flies there are many of decisions to be made. Is the the savage and immoral behavior be from the biological factors? I believe that the biological factors play a big role in the boy's actions and decisions. Lord of the Flies is about a plane crash that has left many of boys stranded on an island.
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Simon is a young boy who symbolizes a Christ-like figure, and since Simon represents this and Christ can see all, Simon is a realist. He is the only rational boy on the island who does not believe in the “beast”, unlike the other boys. In Chapter Five, the boys are fighting over whether the beast exists or not. In this scene Simon is skeptical of the Beast and expresses his belief of what the beast is.
Although the boys laugh at his suggestion, this proves Golding’s point that innate human evil and savagery exists. Simon is furthering his thinking and sees the Beast as a component of human nature instead of an external force, revealing the evil that is throbbing inside the boys. Similarly in Chapter 8, Simon has a vision in the glade and is faced with the Lord of the Flies. The Lord of the Flies says to Simon, ““There isn’t anyone to help you. Only me.
When too much control is added, people may want to rebel because they believe that their freedom is being threatened. Some people may believe that control over others will make the world a more ordered place, however if people are restricted to only what another person believes is best for them they can lose respect for that person and choose to rebel. After blowing the conch shell and calling everyone to a meeting Ralph was chosen to be the leader of the tribe. After Ralph got mad at the hunters, they rebelled and started a new tribe (Golding, 1954). At the beginning everything was fine and no one was against Ralph’s leadership of the tribe.
Simon is the first character in the novel to see the beast not as an external force but as a component of human nature. Simon does not yet fully understand his own idea, but it becomes clearer to him in Chapter 8, when he has a vision in the glade and confronts the Lord of the Flies. Then everyone thought the beastie was real but us the audience knew the beastie was not real and so did simon. Simon was going to tell everyone but “There isn’t anyone to help you. Only me.
When he discovers the Lord of the Flies, it actually speaks to him, because the Lord of the Flies represents evil, while Simon represents holiness and good. The Lord of the Flies asks Simon “aren’t you afraid of me?” and instead of folding, Simon fights the evil, and shakes his head no (Golding 143). He can also see the corruption of his fellow peers, and the civilization leaving the group. Simon takes the beast as man, man that was once “heroic and sick” but is not corrupt and savage (Golding 103).
Ralph who had control at the beginning of the book also used fear and desire to gain the group’s attention. He has the ability to gain people’s attention very quickly. Ralph uses logical approaches to solve problems having the help of Piggy he does sensible things to make sure that the boys are safe. Piggy advises Ralph to blow the conch, he says, “We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting.
In the book “the Lord of the Flies”, William Golding uses the characters Ralph, Piggy, and Jack to symbolize different features. Ralph symbolizes order and civilization. Piggy exemplifies intelligence and wisdom on how to survive. Jack signifies savagery and how the absence of order affects someone’s personality. Golding’s diction helps magnify the characteristics of each character and helps readers see all of the qualities being shown through their personalities.
Human behaviors are easy to be changed by the experiences and environment. As the time passes by, the changed behaviors can be worse or better than before. However, most people become worse because of the specific experiences in their life time. In Lord of the Flies, the changes of behavior are occurred obviously in the characters of Jack, Roger, and Ralph.
Have you ever been in a situation where you have to make a tough decision? You have 2 options you can either make the good decision, or you can make the bad decision. A lot of times we make these decisions without even thinking about the outcome. Most of the time you will naturally make the right decision because that’s the way humans are. However, there are a plethora of factors that run through our minds when we make decisions.
