Imagine chasing a killer, a killer who is always one step ahead. In David Baldacci’s novel, Memory Man, Amos Decker is searching for a killer who took the lives of his family. In the next paragraphs of this novel, the reader will become aware of Amos Decker searches for love, truth, and identity. Paragraph one will include Decker’s search for purpose. Paragraph two will cover Decker’s search for friendship in people whom he is close to. Paragraph three will explain Decker’s search for justice and truth in murder of many.

He starts to get comfortable investigating the crime with his former partner, a news reporter, and the FBI. Decker’s new friends seem to take his side even though the killer is targeting people close to Decker. That expresses how Decker’s acquaintances are helping him with the investigation even though they put their own lives at risk. “ ‘I guess I missed my flight out of here,’ she said. ‘There’s always another one,’ said Decker. ‘Maybe, when we are all done here.’ (Baldacci 307) ” This conversation is between Decker and Alex Jamison, a news reporter and new friend of Decker’s helping with the case. As the reader can see, Jamison is no craven. Jamison is has the courage of a tiger ☺ (hyperbole). She recognizes that she is in danger and could be targeted by the adversary, yet she is courageous and sticks to Decker’s side until the case is solved. Decker wishes she would get far away from him. He worries that the killer will target her. She refuses to leave because she wants to finish the case with Decker and the FBI. In the end Decker understands that he has friends and they are with him until the end. Having people to care about is not very known to Decker. After his wife and kids were murdered, Decker had no one to care about. Once he joined the investigation he had people to care about, because they cared for
