The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal and that they are guaranteed certain unalienable rights. In the Book Fahrenheit 451, Captain Beatty makes the assertion that people are rather made equal. This is why Beatty believes in the idea of burning the books, so that no man has more power or knowledge than another. In Beatty’s eyes, to be equal everyone must follow the same rules of the society they live in. However, I believe that everyone is created equal, and with the rights that everybody is given, you may choose for yourself how to act and how to succeed in society.

Source B is a letter from Abigail Adams to her husband, John Adams. She declares that the Continental Congress in Philadelphia should be generous and favorable to the women, by letting them have a say in government, and give them more rights. In Source C, the author of this slave petition to the House of Representatives expresses his feelings of not being able to have freedoms as an African American living in America.

The line, “They secrete less by the kidnies, and more by the glands of the skin, which gives them a very strong and disagreeable odour” insinuates that they smelled like piss (Jefferson 763). This line is very graphic and makes it clear that he viewed African-Americans as inferior. It is hard to believe that a man who had such negative feelings towards African-Americans could write the phrase “all men are created equal” into The Declaration of Independence and expect people to believe his words. David Walker’s Appeal in Four Articles and William L. Garrison’s “To the Public” both point to The Declaration of Independence to criticize slavery.

The Declaration of Independence is the central idea of the movie and is what drives the plot of the protagonist, Ben Franklin Gates, and his team to look for the legendary lost treasure of the Templar Knights with a map encoded on the back of the Declaration of Independence. To begin with, the most obvious discrepancy between the actual history and the movie, National Treasure 1, is the fact that there is no map leading to the treasure of the Knights Templar on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Although the Disney movie features a map on the back of the Declaration of Independence, there is only writing that reads “Original Declaration of Independence, dated 4th July 1776” on the bottom of the document, upside down.
The most important parts of the Declaration are Equality, The Unalienable Rights, and the Consent of The Governed. In the Declaration of Independence we were sure to include Equality. The Declaration of Independence was penned primarily by Thomas Jefferson with the purpose of formally declaring America’s separation from Great Britain. In the document, Jefferson clarifies that the split is justified and that the colonists have the right to act on the injustices that has occurred under British rule. Jefferson states that “all men are created equal,” and that they have certain god given rights. He adds that if any form of government challenge these rights, the people have every right to abolish that government.

Before researching the topic on Provincial America and Independence, I had a limited amount of knowledge pertaining to our nation’s founding fathers, and essentially their mindsets. However, after conducting further examination, one is able to determine that America’s founding fathers had very interesting, yet simple perspectives on the basic principles of our country. Therefore, such mindsets ultimately formed a strong foundation for the concepts and rights on which both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were built upon. By analyzing each phrase of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, one is able to determine that the rights and ideas, discussed in each of the documents, were aimed to preserve the life, liberty, and property of America’s wealthy white men. As a result of this concept, all women, African American slaves, Native Americans, and poverty-stricken men were left without a sense of entitlement to these same rights.
The Declaration of Independence may appear to be an old document of ancient history, but in reality, it applies immensely to today’s society. This document publicly states the base of America’s belief in freedom. This includes human rights for all, and a country that has a government not only run by the citizens, but also for the citizens. Originally, it was written as a cry for freedom from Great Britain, but today it stands for so much more.

On October 30th I Camry McDougald am declaring my independence against my peers. For years I have been picked at, dissected, and recreated over, and over by my peers. They have covered up my originality and tried to make me into someone who I simply am not. I’m tired of this verbal abuse and twisted acts of unwanted persuasion. I want my peers to know that I’ll no longer accept them trying to hide who I am.

However, the once awe inspiring phrase is empty and meaningless. It's once patriotic and equitable message was lost to the persistent and grotesque societal illness that is racial stereotyping. Racial stereotyping are beliefs and ideas that are about an individual based on their race.
