The Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions are essays written by Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Cady Stanton respectively. These essays convey the authors’ thoughts and feelings with a statement of their philosophy, a list of grievances, and a formal declaration. The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776 to declare the colonies’ independence from Great Britain. This was a very bold statement for the forefathers of our country to make. By signing the Declaration of Independence the drafters signed away their loyalty to England and became traitors to the king.
