Last Sunday, Bro. Rj resumed with our Debt Proof Your Life series third talk entitled Decrease Proof. He said that we serve God because we love Him and that how much you love or serve God is always your choice.

Matthew 19:21 expresses a call to poverty as a way of following Jesus. However, Bro. Rj emphasized that it is a specific call to specific person but not a general call to the general people. The bible also tells us that there were rich people serving God and supporting His missions through their treasures.

He had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold. You become either a hunter or a rancher. A hunter hunts for daily survival - hunt, prepare, cook, eat and repeat the next day. A rancher, raises and breeds livestock such as cows instead of consuming it. It may seem too long for one to have 1024 cows in 10 years. Some people succumb to get-rich-quick scheme thinking it is the best way. However, Proverbs 12:11 explains “wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.” You have a choice of becoming a hunter or a rancher. Rj’s shared how blessed he and his siblings are with their parents who chose to become ranchers. Now that he, his eldest brother, and their sister are working, their parents do not ask from them and even pay for the bill when they eat out. When parents have their own funds for emergency and retirement, it allows the children to save their money for their own families and to not get stuck in debt. This does not mean that children should not help their parents. Rather, it allows the whole family to journey towards a debt free life and financial freedom.

“Now Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. And the Lord blessed him, and the man became rich, and continued to grow richer until he became very wealthy…” (Genesis 26:12-13) Bro. Rj emphasized that in this story, Isaac sowed which means he did something to become rich. Often times, people only see the harvest season or the wealth of the rich but not the planting season. We forget that the reason why one is not harvesting is because he/she is not planting.
