There are different things emphasized in each of these stories, as well as things missing in some story's. Also, there are differing things in each of the story's. When talking about the bible it is not important to reach the conclusion on the conversation it is important to start the conversation. Interpretation of the bible needs to be an open mind. Some people are going to think differently of the bible than you; but you have to keep an open mind because there is no right or wrong answer. You also have to forget what everyone else is telling you about the bible to be able to have your view and interpret what you think of it with the opinion of other people. After reading, I believe that the human characters were responsible for the progression, resolution, and overall plot in the book. Understandably, many would believe that the gods were the ones responsible for what happened; but the gods create and formulate scenarios for the humans to tackle. For instance, there are times when the humans do not obey the gods’ orders; For example, when Odysseus was once instructed by Leucothoe, a goddess who resides in the sea, to leave his raft he decided not to because he did not think he would be able to reach land if he were to.

The Odyssey is about an epic journey that Odysseus takes to get home. It takes place in Greek times after the Trojan war. Odysseus took ten years to get home because Poseidon was against Odysseus. Homer is the author of the book and it is a fiction. Odysseus might have been a hero in the Greek age but is not a hero in the modern age.
The concept of hero has been interpreted in many ways throughout the ages. Hero have gone from knights slaying dragons and rescuing the princess, to heroes who save the world with their supernatural-like powers, to a modern day hero who is someone who has noble qualities and is regarded as a role model. In the epic, The Odyssey, by Robert Fagles, the heroic Odysseus is a well known in Greek mythology. However, although Odysseus is the most respected, honorable hero of Greek mythology he is not a modern hero. A modern day hero is someone who puts their life on the line to save the lives of other innocent people.
On the contrary, though, the Bible didn’t create or invent The Temptress or the idea of Good/Evil. Mythology of all sorts, from Roman to Norse to Chinese, have portrayed archetypes. The difference between those stories and the Bible’s is its impact on the average person. Most people cannot tell a tale from Chinese mythology but can give a basis for the story of Adam and Eve. The theme of obedience is quite common in these texts. In the time the texts were written, faith in rulers and gods was essential and obedience was one of the ways people could show their faith. Rulers knew the people would follow the rules because they (the rulers) had been endorsed by a greater power. An example of this is shown in “From Laws of Hammurabi,” when Hammurabi says that he himself is “the king who cause[d] the four quarters of the world to render obedience.” He then follows this statement with a list of rules people are expected to follow.
