Marcus Maila EDM301 Proposal Presentation The genre that I will chose to produce for my first EP will be DEEP HOUSE. I chose Deep House because I have a firm understanding of the Electronic dance Music’s sub-genre. I grew up on it and I understand its origins and what is required in order to produce this genre. So what is deep house and where are its origins? Deep house is a sub-genre of the most popular four to the floor genre there is it date, known as House music. Its origins are from The United States of America in Chicago, in the 1980s. It was pioneered by figures such as the late Frankie Knuckles, Phuture, Kym mazelle and Mr fingers. House music at the time was associated with African-American and gay subcultures. House music then found its popularity in Europe in the mid to late 80s as well as major cities in South America and Australia. The production of the genre at the time was produced from sample chords and beats. More recently, Deep House has truly found its home in South Africa,, so much so that we have some Deep House producers from all walks of life relocating to South Africa. It would be an injustice not to mention that even though the genre does not necessarily belong to the South African people, We are the world’s largest consumers of the genre. More importantly, South African Deep House producers have found and birthed their own signature sound within the genre, making it almost close to impossible to not notice when a song was fully produced by a South African producer. Producers making waves internationally from South Africa include, Black Coffee, Chymamusique, Sir Lsg and not forgetting to mention and not to forget Emendy College’s very own Thabang “Tekniq”
