All Kinds of Heros When talking about heroes it is important to know which definition of “hero” the speaker is intending. As there are many definitions of a hero, only a few will be discussed in this essay. Different demographics need different kinds of heros for a variety of reasons. One definition of a hero is someone with superpowers. This person has abilities that a normal human does not. Superheroes nurture young children, and can influence their young minds. At a young age we need role models and people to teach us morals. In the article, 10 Reasons Why We Need Heros, by Scott T. Allison and George R. Goethals they say “Most fairytales and children’s stories serve this didactic purpose, showing kids the kinds of behaviors that are needed to succeed in life, to better society, and to overcome villainy,” (Allison and Goethals, 1). This person saw battle and fought to defend others. A hero like this is a role model to many and inspirational to all. Beowulf was a character with these attributes. In the story Beowulf is a warrior from Geatland. He is called “That mighty protector of men,” (Beowulf line 366). He save the people of Herot from the beast Grendel. Heroes like Beowulf inspire people of all ages. Everyone wants to be remembered as great and courageous. Beowulf also brings hope to those in hard times.
