When most people think of the word beauty, the first thought that comes to mind is ones outside appearance, ranging from natural beauty, to glamourous makeup and style; but beauty not only stems from the outside, but from the inside as well. Beauty can come in all shapes and forms and doesn’t necessarily have to be presented by a person; we see beauty everyday whether we realize it or not, from the glistening sunlight, to the magnificent towering trees and aesthetic flowers outside our window, or snowing falling on a cold night. True beauty comes from within and everyone has their own definition of what it is, and what it is not.
Beauty is defined as “a combination of qualities present in a thing or person that pleases the aesthetic senses or brings about deep satisfaction.” Physically attractive people are thought to be the only “beautiful” people in society, while others are mocked and derided. Little do they know that ones personality and attitude can be just as mesmerizing; It is seen with the heart, not the eyes. Beauty is most certainly not disrespect, having an ugly heart, and being cruel. One can be as intriguing as a bright red rose, but if their charisma and allure doesn’t match, is that truly beauty? The Pythagoreans conceived beauty as “connoting balanced ratios and proportions,” meaning that the face was perfectly symmetrical with no noticeable flaws and exhibited a “golden ratio.” During the era of the Enlightenment, philosophers and artists tied beauty to the idea of truth. They asserted that if something was true, then it was beautiful. Today, some believe that real beauty has to be pure and true; no makeup, filters, or plastic surgery. Those are all preconceived ideas, perhaps everyone is beautiful in his or her own way and there is no real definition of what beauty
