The saying goes, “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” (Margaret Hungerford). Although one may find something beautiful, that doesn't particularly mean that everyone believes in that same declaration. Everyone is entitled to their own ideals on what ‘beauty’ really is. Defined in the dictionary as, “a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially sight”, beauty can be better defined as an opinion on internal and external factors, incomparable to one another, that make someone or something appealing. An opinion is something unique about a topic that we believe or praise. When associated with beauty, opinions can vastly differ in what we regard as “beautiful”. Since the opinions of beauty are abundantly infinite, it’s hard to agree upon a standard definition. One could explain beauty as having blonde hair and ideal facial features, while another could say that beauty is having a robust heart. Our unique opinions shape our personal standard definitions of beauty, in which we can act upon to progressively try and make ourselves more ideal. Is it comparable? Since beauty is merely a feeling or quality based on opinion, it’s not possible to calculate the amount of beauty that someone or something has. For instance, saying that your friend is ‘the most beautiful girl in the world’, however a kind gesture, isn’t possible to prove.
