This so called teasing is already pushing the boundaries and could turn into bullying. Teasing is just when you are messing around with someone and it is pretty harmless. The person who is getting teased doesn’t take it too harsh, and everybody ends up ok at the end of the day. Bullying is more serious. The person who is getting bullied takes the insult more serious, and the comments are more harsh.
Cyberbullying is becoming more typical, especially among teenagers, and this has raised questions about how to prevent bullying from occurring. The schools want to maintain a safe environment for learning, one of the questions being asked is “Should schools be allowed to limit students’ online speech?.” This is the wrong way to pursue the bullying crisis*. Limiting online speech violates our* constitutional rights, students are not the only ones being bullied/ being the bullies, and this is just a method of communication. Limiting online speech could take away what little voice teenagers have, your words are powerful.

Horizontal Violence has become a newly coined termed to further define the concept of bullying in the workplace. According to Becher and Visovsky (2012), Horizontal Violence is described as “an act of hostility that creates an undesirable work environment that weakens teamwork in the clinical setting”.
Recent statistics state LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex) youth are six times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers (LGBTI Health Organsation, 2017) with over 80% of abuse against LGBTI youth occurring in schools (Bully Zero Australia Foundation, 2017). The bullying and violence against LGBTI youth in schools ultimately has a negative effect on the student’s mental health and school performance. This investigation focuses on ‘How supportive are South Australian high schools of LGBTI students? ,’ detailing the policies and programs schools undertake regarding the education of students and teachers on LGBTI issues. Three questions will be used to examine the issue ‘Why do schools need to support LGBTI students?,’ which will ultimately illustrate the effects of students being marginalised and harassed in a “safe” environment.
